When parents think about getting their kids ready to go off to college, most think about college funds, but there is another aspect to preparing children for college, and that’s the practical one. Once your son or daughter is in college, suddenly he or she will have to pay bills, do laundry, cook, clean, and more. Here are some things that you can do to prepare them.

Financial Responsibilities

It’s important for your college student to understand how to budget. When he’s at college, even if he has saved for things like rent, food, and entertainment, he won’t have unlimited amount of money. He’ll have to learn how to spread out those funds so they last all year. Teaching him how to create a budget, and stick to it, will help. This should be started when’s your child is still a child, but if not, then the sooner the better.

Household Responsibility

Life for your college student will be so much easier if she knows the basics of household management. This includes things like cooking, cleaning, laundry, basic car maintenance, etc. Many kids today aren’t growing up learning how to do this things and it’s a great disadvantage to them when they’re on their own. You can help by assigning your child chores that she must complete on a daily and weekly basis. By having her cook simple meals at home, she’ll have a basis for cooking at college and won’t rely on fast food to get her through, which is expensive and unhealthy.

Parenting can be trying in the simplest of times, so getting kids ready for college requires a lot of patience and understanding. It’s a time of stress for college-bound teens facing a major life shift and also for parents, who may experience Empty Nest Syndrome. There are certain things to keep in mind to ensure an easy transition for you and your child.

Things to Buy

Part of getting kids ready for college is deciding what to buy to take along to school. You want your child to be comfortable, and dorms are notoriously small and low on storage space. Getting your child storage bins will help them utilize space under their bed, while a power strip will allow them to plug in all of their electronics. You might want to invest in a small refrigerator and microwave for the dorm room. They’ll supplement your child’s meal plan.

Talk Before They Go

The transition to college can be psychologically trying for both parents and kids. Parents might feel the sadness of Empty Nest Syndrome, while their children face numerous adjustments. To ease the transition for both of you, have a heart to heart about things like living with new people and changes in self-image before your child moves out.

Communication Plans

Parenting means keeping in touch with your kid through the good and the bad. The transition to college can be tough, so you’ll want to be there for your child but also give them space. Definitely stay in touch, but don’t hover, and don’t pry. Learning how to use internet communication tools like Skype will make keeping in contact cheap and easy.

When kids go off to college, many parents feel pangs of Empty Nest Syndrome. Parenting encompasses a huge part of your life. The changes brought on by this transition can be tough to handle, but you can survive and grow when your kids leave the nest.

Enjoy Your Alone Time
Remember all those days when your kids played their music too loudly and you wished for a time of peace and quiet? That time is now! Enjoy it by reconnecting with yourself. Pick up where you left off an old hobby when you had kids, or develop a new one.

Learn New Things
You now have the time you’ve always dreamed of to do all those things you put off for the kids. Learn to cook. Learn a new language. Learn to paint. Sign up for that class you’ve always wanted to take.

Rekindle Old Relationships
Reconnect with your partner. Have a date night or do an activity you both enjoy. Remember why you’re together and all the great times you had before kids. Now is also the perfect opportunity to get back in touch with old friends. If there are friends you haven’t seen because you haven’t had the time, contact them and let them know you want to renew your friendship.

Find New Meaning
Parenting has filled your life with meaning up until now. Empty Nest Syndrome doesn’t spell the end of that. While parenting will still be a huge part of your life, albeit in a new form, find something new that you value. Use your strengths and skills to help others and add new meaning to who you are.

Parenting takes on new challenges when the high school years arrive. With the threat of teenage rebellion always looming, it’s no wonder parents balk at the thought of these years. If you keep yourself informed and patient, raising your teen doesn’t have to be a terrifying time.

Those Teenage Years

Look at this stage in your child’s life as a time for you to help your child grow into their own distinct, individual self. As adolescents, your kids will try on different identities and the appearances that go along with them, often raising conflicts in the home. The goal of this stage of life is to achieve independence, so you might find your child pulling away from you. Now is the time to be supportive.

How to Cope

If high school rebellion causes anxiety in your life, take this as the time to work on your relationship with your kids. Question yourself—do you take the time to listen to and consider your kids’ opinions? Simply showing that you care will go a long way. Put yourself in your teenager’s shoes to understand that they may feel self-conscious, and let them know that it’s OK to feel that way. Choose your battles wisely. Leave room for your child’s self expression. It’s more important to fight on issues with real and permanent danger than to pick a fight about your teenager dyeing their hair a funky color.

Of course, certain signals in your teen like extreme weigh loss or gain or constantly skipping school point to real problems. Seek help if you need to, and remember, parenting rebellious teenagers calls above all for your support.

The development of children is a very complex process that involves many different steps and mile-stones. From learning how to do more simplistic things such as walking and potty training, to making friends and developing social relationships in pre-school, there are many important elements that come into play. However, no other aspect of a child’s development is more vital than the teenage years. Unfortunately, as a result of this, rebellion is a big problem that tends to become prevalent around this time. Below is a list of some of the more notable elements that can contribute to teen rebellion.

Lack of Communication at Home

Teens who lack communication at home tend to be more rebellious than those who do not. A large reason for this is due to the fact they have no constructive outlet in which to release their problems, instead turning to rebellious activities such as getting into trouble at school and experimenting with various kinds of drugs. It is important for parents to try and maintain a working communication between their children, regardless of regular arguments or disagreements that might persist.

Influences of Peers

An additional contributing factor pertaining to the rebellion of teenagers is the influence of their peers; otherwise known as peer pressure. Unfortunately, teenagers face a great deal of stress when it comes to fitting in and keeping up with the social standards of school and interacting with one another. As a result of this, there are situations that arise in which teens feel compelled to take a less than adequate path in order to seemingly please their friends or peers to gain a sense of acceptance.

For those looking to pursue a post higher education, choosing the right college is a big step. This concept is particularly evident among children who are coming to the end of their High School career. However, preparing a child for college begins much earlier than the end of High School; and it is important for parents to help get the ball rolling sooner rather than later. There are a few simple things that parents can do throughout their child’s development in school that can set them on the right track for college.

Begin the Discussion Early

One of the best ways to get your children prepared for college is to begin the discussion early. This is a good way to get an idea of their interests and help spark a motivation to pursue education after High School. Additionally, beginning early provides them with more time to consider the many options they have available to them.

Help Them With Their Research

In addition to early discussions, it is also important to stay involved and let your child know that you are interested in assisting them with exploring options. During High School, and even before, taking some time to explore the various benefits of specific colleges can help give them more detail on what kinds of options are available both in state, out of state and even online. As your children begin researching and becoming aware of the various benefits associated with college, they will get excited about the prospect of post High School education.

Teens who are going through their High School career are also going through one the most important times of their development. For many, this moment in life is a time in which a cross-roads is approaching; determining the path that they will take after High School graduation. In addition to maintaining grades, there are a barrage of different elements that burden teens during this time that can make their lives among the most stressful. Below are some of the more common issues that teens face in High School that can contribute to this stress.

Maintaining Social Status Among Peers

One of the most notable aspects of High School that many people can relate to is the immense emphasis placed towards the social status of students. Students can feel pressure to fit in based off the responses of their peers. Due to this fact, many students tend to do different things that they would normally not do as a result of peer pressure simply to feel as if they belong. Among some of the most notable include: experimenting with various drugs and or underage drinking.

Considering Post High School Education

In addition to the various aspects of peer pressure associated with high School, students must also consider their post high School education. This can be a difficult time; causing disagreements and disputes between students and their parents. In some cases, students become so stressed out that they do not even pursue the possibility of post High School graduation as a result.

Making the transition from middle school to high school can be difficult and confusing. Children have to get used to having several different teachers and classrooms (this is especially true for kids coming from smaller parochial or private schools).

In high school, there are many more students in the hallways, as well as in classes. When your child is getting ready to make the transition from one school to the next, there are numerous things that you, as parents, can do to help make it a bit easier.

Some schools can be quite large, but one of the most important things is to make sure your child has a positive self-image and high self-esteem. Sometimes some things as simple as new clothing or a new pair of shoes can go a long to help with these things. Nike clothes offer a vast array of footwear for everyday wear and for sports. If your child is sports-minded, why not take a look at the brand if you haven’t already?

In some cases, you and your child may have to confront the issue of bullying, but rest assured that there are numerous resources out there for that.

Because high school can be vastly different from middle school, be sure to stress the importance of education as a whole. Make sure your children know that academics are of the utmost importance, especially if college is in the future plans for your child. If you have the means and live in a city with several school choices, be sure to choose the one that fits most with your child’s learning habits.

It is natural for parents to be concerned when their child goes off to college. Although your son or daughter may feel they are more than ready to start the next chapter in their lives, they may also have worries. There are ways to prepare you and your child for college, by talking about them in advance.

Talk about what to expect

You and your college-bound child can discuss concerns either one of you may have, and then talk about ways to resolve these problems. Pay special attention to your child when they have any “what if” questions. Be sure to answer these questions with confidence.

Bring up concerns you both may have

Assuming that parents have already discussed sex, alcohol, and drug use with their child, this is a good time for parents to give them a refresher course.

Allow them to voice their concerns

If your child plans to have a job while attending college, help your child use the money they earn wisely. Discuss expenses that you will continue to take care of, and ways for your child to get the most out of the money they will make.

Agree to keep in touch on a schedule

To ease your mind and your child’s about leaving home, agree to keep in touch on a weekly basis by phone. Reassure the child and yourself, that although they will not be living at home, you are still just a phone call away, and that you will always be there for them.

Above all else, be there for them before and after they leave the house to go off on their own.

It is not unusual to hear about refinancing a home in order to lower an interest rate and save money, but many people don’t realize that they can do the same thing with their car loans. Car refinancing is becoming more popular these days as a way to cut expenses, and as a way to save money for other big expenses such as saving for college tuition.

It is a good option for those who may be suffering from the tough economic times. Saving on your monthly bills is a good way to start putting money away to pay for college, or maybe you have been laid off and don’t have the income that you had when you first bought the car. The economy has driven people to be more creative than usual when it comes to saving money and cutting down their monthly bills, and refinancing a car loan is one way to help make ends meet.

Refinancing a car works just like a refinance on a home. If you find a better rate with another lender you can take the lower interest rate loan and use it to pay off your current car loan. Your payments are then lower each month, and depending on the amount you borrowed, and how many years you have left, you can save yourself thousands of dollars over the life of the loan with car refinancing.

This extra money can be used to help you get back on your feet and keep up with other expenses, or even be used to pay off your loan faster.

The importance of high school education is very deep in a student’s life. The first purpose of going to school is to study but there are also other purposes. By going to school a students can learn about good manners and learn good behavior from the teachers. You can learn how to behave with the seniors and with the juniors and many other good things. The school education is of two types. One is primary education and the other is higher education where you have to give the big exams of your life, named secondary and higher secondary.

A high school mainly consists of six classes that are from class five to ten. Some high schools have two more classes, including class eleven and twelve. After ending the primary education where you have made your base, a student comes to take admission in a high school. Here you have to read in the proper way, guided by the teachers and have to work hard to make good results because if you do not make good result here you will suffer at the time of higher education. In the higher secondary syllabus which stream you will choose that is much more dependant on your secondary result.

A society, the economic condition of a country and many other things are dependant on the education system of that country. Seeing this, the governments of the developmental countries like India are trying to develop their education system. They are spending huge amount of money to build new high schools, colleges, universities etc. An educated person can earn more easily rather than an uneducated person with the education skill he or she has. You all know that today’s child is the future of a country. So you have to take care of the education of those children who will make your country proud one day.

Your teen is likely very interested in fashion or simply looking good. This is a typical stage among most adolescents. If you can, help them out with dressing themselves in clothing that makes them feel comfortable and good about themselves. A lot of clothing that is targeted at teens can be expensive, but there are some ways that you can save money if you are willing to work at it.

First, it may not be popular, but shop used clothing stores, thrift stores, and yard sales and you can find wardrobe staples in popular brands for a fraction of the cost of the department stores. You may not find the hottest styles for this year, but for items such as jeans, tee shirts, and sweaters shopping used can be found that are no different than what is currently available at the mall.

Another great place to find bargains is at the designer discount stores. Stores like Ross, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx offer popular brand names at a much better price than the mall shops. They have a combination of designer seconds, last year’s styles and overstocks at great prices. This can be a great place to find stylish and trendy wardrobe pieces without spending a bundle.

If you have more than one child in the same size, you may be able to convince them to share expensive clothing items. If you have two daughters and they split the cost of a designer tee, they will neither one have to spend too much and both will get the enjoyment of wearing the shirt. If you do this, make sure they have an agreement about what happens if one of the children damages or loses the clothing item though.

Divorce is an ugly word and a far uglier inevitability. Your days have been leading you to this moment, to a realization that can’t be denied: you’re not happy; your partner isn’t happy; and the notion of family is strained.

Such a strain doesn’t excuse you from your obligations, however. Your children still remain, unaware of what’s occurring, uncertain of what the future will bring; and it becomes your responsibility to soothe the burden.

Divorce is a complex idea and, often, children can’t understand it. It’s vital to simplify the process therefore: do all you can to make each day an easy one, with all thoughts turned toward what is best for all. Utilize:

One: Communication. Silence is golden — this is the belief that shapes many parents, an assumption of quiet words and refusals. Children cannot understand such refusals, however. They’ll instead be angered by them, needing explanations but receiving nothing beyond a stare. Answer all questions. Ask about feelings and concerns. Generate the necessary dialogues and be certain to detail the entire divorce procedure.

Two: Patience. Logic doesn’t dominate a child’s thoughts. There’s instead only fear and that emotion can trigger a variety of complications (stress, panic attacks, illness, regression and more). Parents must therefore be willing to accept these moments, understanding that they are defense mechanisms. Patience is needed to handle the problems and eventually soothe them.

Three: Mediation. The process of seeking a new life is rarely an easy one; and the presence of children compounds the hours even more. It’s essential therefore to turn to divorce lawyers to make the transition as seamless as possible. Don’t struggle with the rules and worries. Instead allow those who will serve the interests of your family to determine all details. These individuals will help to decipher the needs of all parties involved — especially adolescents.

The intention of any divorce must be the happiness of the children. Remember this to soften the separation.

When your child is young, it can be easy to help them with their homework. Obviously doing homework with your second grader is not going to strain your brain too much. However, the story can be much different once your child is in high school.

Your high school age child may be facing problems in school that are beyond what you can help them with. If this is the case, what should you do?

The first thought is to have your child get tutoring. This can be done through the school or through private companies that specialize in tutoring. Getting professional tutoring can be costly, but if your child is really struggling it can be the best way to get them back on track.

Another option is to have your child get help from a classmate. If this is a small problem, this can be a great way for them to get the help they need without costing a lot of money. If the other child really puts in the time, you may consider having your child get them a small gift or taking them out to see a movie or for dinner. This can be a great way to thank the peer tutor.

In today’s technologically advanced world, your child may be able to find assistance online. There are many websites that are devoted to homework help. Some of these have subscription fees, while others are free of charge. Simply make sure the advice your child is getting is solid, and this can be a great way to improve their grades or get help with a one time homework problem.

No matter what method you choose, simply make sure your child gets the help they need. You do not want a small problem to snowball into something that will keep them from their dreams.

Many kids look forward to the day when they can leave mom and dad’s home and live on their own in college. This is a wonderful time in life. It’s a time to explore and learn new things. It’s a time to discover who they are and to learn how to be independent. However, if your child has an addiction, such as to video games, then you need to take hold of the problem before your child leaves home. There’s nothing worse than letting your child go off to school, with an addiction that hasn’t been solved. After all, being in an environment free of mom and dad will only make the addiction worse.

If your child has an addiction, to drugs, alcohol, or even computer games, take the steps necessary now to turn the course around. Here are some ideas to help.

1. Go online. There are many wonderful resources online to help you cope with addiction. You could try MichaelsHouse.com for starters. You’ll find many great helps here.

2. Talk to your child. It does nobody any good to simply ignore the problem and hope it goes away. Talk to your child and tell him about your concerns.

3. Encourage other activities. If it’s video games your child is addicted to, or has a tendency to be addicted to, encourage other activities. Go out to dinner as a family or take a walk around the block. Think of creative ways to get your child away from the game and involved in life.

4. Show unconditional love. Loving your child is perhaps the best way to take control of an addiction. You love the person, not the bad habit. So make sure your child knows you still love him and you are willing to help.

If your child does have a full-fledged addiction, make sure you get professional help. Rehab or a counselor may be your next step.

Applying for a first job is one of the hardest things a teenager can do. This is not a topic that is covered at school, so they may be going into this experience without having any idea what to expect. This can be a great chance for you to connect with your child and also help you learn about where your teen is going to be working.

First, you need to discuss with your teen about the types of places they want to work. For teenagers some of the more common jobs would be working in food service and retail. Which of these work out best for your child is really a matter of personal preference. Usually the jobs in food service are messier and may require harder work; however they offer more chance to connect with other teens and also the chance to work in a variety of different tasks. Working in retail tends to be quieter and cleaner, but the job may be monotonous and not offer as much chance to work with others.

Once they know the types of places they want to work, the real research begins. Look on the website and see how the preferred method of applying is conducted. Many companies have moved to online applications, which can done in the comfort of home. The only negative to this type of job application is that your teen does not have the chance to talk to the manager and make a positive first impression. If your child applies online, encourage them to stop by the physical location and introduce themselves to the manager. This can make their application stand out and hopefully get them an interview.

Once they have applied, it is time for the waiting game. Don’t be impatient, but encourage your teen to call and inquire about the status of their application. Many places get way more applications than they can ever interview and those that get the chance to interview are those that really put themselves out there.

Now that’s a growing trend, and one would say it’s faster than even a growing fetus in a mother’s belly: these days, you’ll notice mothers all over going back to school…not in a traditional university, but an online one! Shocking?

Don’t believe it. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Here’s the thing: while you’d first ponder as to why a mother would bother spending her time going back to school when she has children to tend to, imagine the logistics and time-efficiency of getting schooling taken care of while raising a child, and you’ll get the picture. If it were a traditional school, you could only imagine how difficult, nearly impossible–perhaps completely impossible–it would be.

Make no mistake: online degrees have provided a cake moms can have and eat as well–the best of both worlds. By the time children are sufficiently raised to get them in grade school, you might have a mother already landing a degree in the field she loves to do, or even a mother finding a high-quality job she’d probably never find without going to an online university. The government even now provides grants for mothers looking for assistance in funding for education, making it easier to attend the online college of their choice without the headaches of bloated loans, bad credit, and less income for the necessities of today.

Sadly, that’s typically the norm for stay-at-home moms. Education gets pushed aside for these women to take care of their motherly responsibilities. It’s not the same ballgame anymore, though; a mom can get on Kaplan University’s web site, and the journey begins–and quickly, too. An infant can only grow a year before a mother has completed a degree online–pretty

You realize the need for life insurance. This insurance will make sure that your family will be taken care of in case of your death. But determining just how much life insurance you need seems to be a confusing issue. There are so many factors that seem to come into play. For instance, the amount of life insurance you need can be different if you are approaching retirement and all your children are grown, than if you just had your first child.

Here are a few tips on determining a life insurance amount:

Make sure the immediate costs of your death are covered. This includes your funeral and burial costs. Determining this cost for your service or burial is an obvious factor, but you should also take into account any medical expenses, mortgages and other debts when determining your policy amount.

If your spouse and children depend on your income, this should be a issue in estimating your life insurance amount. This amount should provide funds for your family to maintain their lives. Many insurers suggest that you take your annual income and multiple it by how many years you have before you retire. You should take into account inflation and other such factors as well.

Add any other costs to your replacement income. This can include costs for college tuition as well as regular home maintenance and upkeep costs.

Add these three figures together. Then subtract any assets you have, such as retirement funds and your spouse’s income if he or she works as well. This number will reflect a fairly accurate look at your life insurance needs. You can find online calculators that can help guide you through this process.

After you have determined the amount you feel comfortable with, you should compare insurance quotes to determine the policy that is right for you and your family.

Deciding whether your child would benefit from having a part time job is a decision that many parents go through. The benefits can be significant but at the same time having a part time job can be a major time sink for many teens. You need to weigh the benefits and consider the negatives for your teen before you allow them to begin the job application process.

The benefits of having a part time job are varied. Your child will learn responsibility as they will likely have a job that many of their co-workers will depend on. Even working in a fast food restaurant it is very important that they show up and do their job to avoid letting down their fellow employees. Another benefit is that they will earn money that can be used to pay for clothes, entertainment and maybe save for college or a car. A final benefit is that they will begin building their resume. Making connections at a young age can be a great boon for them in the future.

However, there are certainly reasons that you could decide a part time job is not right for your teenager. Even if the job starts at par time, many times these jobs can turn into major time sinks. If your child is willing, many times these jobs will have them working full time hours. This can be way too much for a child who is trying to get through some of the hardest years of schooling they’ve ever faced. They may also wind up missing out on important social activities and time to connect with friends. If your child winds up taking a part time job, you need to make sure it does not become a strain on the rest of their life.

Having a part time job can be a great thing for many teens; it just needs to be done very carefully. Help your teen choose a job that will bring them rewards without causing too many strains on their everyday life. This is the happy medium for most families.

Financial planning is absolutely essential when you have a family. Running a big family means that there are a myriad of different expenses that you are going to have to contend with. If you do not keep all of your finances in check, then you may end up feeling overwhelmed in the future. Digging yourself out of a financial debt problem is really hard, especially since falling behind means simultaneously staying on top of current bills and catching up on the old ones. Because of how financially dangerous this can be, it is definitely a smarter idea for you to keep on top of your financial planning and budgeting now so that you never end up in that kind of a predicament.

It is also important for you to show your children how they can learn how to manage their money. The best way that you can do this is by leading through example. If your family happens to be suffering from financial woes, then keep in mind that there are steps that you can take to get yourself out of financial problems. First, you might want to consider refinancing your auto loans, because a car refinance might be able to take some of the burden off of you financially. Another option is to refinance your mortgage, which can have much the same effect because a mortgage refinance can help lower your interest rate and monthly payment to take some of the load off.

There are many other things that you can do like keeping a budget, couponing, only shopping once per week and shopping off a list to save money, recycling cans and bottles for cash and so on. It is important that you build a strategy for saving money and getting out of debt so that you can show your children a good example that they can build from in learning how to manage money.

Purchasing a computer for your teen to take to college can seem like a daunting task. It doesn’t have to be, if you do some research before you dive in and start shopping. The great thing about buying a student computer is that you don’t often need the heavy duty processor that a gaming computer may require, so you can save money and still provide your teen with a computer that will meet or exceed all of their needs.

Many teens have realized once they got to school that a laptop computer is preferable to a desktop model. The laptops don’t have as much power as their heavy duty cousins, but they can easily connect to the internet and run word processing and spreadsheet programs. These tasks are usually all a student really needs to get by in college.

Having the ability to carry their computer to class, to the dorm, to the library and to study group will save your teen from having to lug piles of paper notes everywhere. Now, it is possible to get many textbooks in a digital format that can be accessed from a laptop computer too. This will save your teen money in the long run, because they can purchase these data versions for a fraction of the cost of traditional paper textbooks.

When you purchase the computer your teen will be taking to college, make sure you include them in the process. Computers are actually a very personal decision. For example, I use a laptop for all of my writing so I need a laptop computer that has a keyboard that won’t cramp my hands after hours of writing. Many teens may prefer a smaller sized computer if they are going to be taking it to class and around town. Your first instinct may have been to purchase one with a larger screen, but this may not be what is best for your child. Working together you can choose a computer that will meet their needs best.

Getting your teen ready for college is a big job; there are schools to visit and decisions to make, and the never ending task of buying gear for the dorms. This can be a very expensive period of time, but there are some easy ways to save money when equipping the dormitory.

First, before you buy anything look around your house. Do you have a guest room that is seldom used? You may already have a set of sheets and comforter that will work perfectly for the dorm. Instead of buying your teen a new laptop, maybe they can use the one you bought for work and seldom touch.

Once you have scavenged what you have at hand, talk to friends and family. Nearly everyone has stuff around their house that they don’t use. Maybe some of these things that are taking up space would work perfectly for your teen’s new dorm room. This can be an easy way to get a bookshelf or desk especially.

So now you know what you actually need to buy, and you are ready to save some money on that too. Shopping online can be really good in this case. You can get the items shipped directly to the school for the week that your teen is moving in. This will save you from having to drive it yourself. If you spend some time looking, you may find free shipping coupons or other deals for online retailers that can save you big money.

Just because your child is moving to a dorm doesn’t mean you have to go broke. With some creativity and a little work, you can get their dorm ready to go for a fraction of what many parents spend. Your child will likely appreciate the things they have when they have an active role in finding and preparing the gear for use. Just because you spend little, doesn’t mean their room won’t be attractive and functional.

If you have aspirations for your child to be a success in college, you may want to help your child start college preparations before senior year. That’s not to say the your child needs to know what he wants to major in, but he does need to think about where he wants to go to school and why. Often the school of choice has more to do with a favorite sports team than an appropriate education.

As you get a sense of where your child’s real interests are, you may want to suggest schools that would best suit his college education. That’s not to say he has to give up his sports loyalties, he just needs to know that sports and education are two very different things. Visit some college campuses to get a feel for what excites your child. Do the big schools overwhelm him? Would he feel more comfortable in a smaller school? If he is certain he wants to go into some professional program, like medical school, which pre-med program on which campus would be best? These are ways to guide him in college preparation.

You child also needs to have excellent study habits. There’s no skirting by in college. If he’s the type that can ease through high school, he may be in for a devastating reality check at the university. Making good grades and having good study habits are two different things. Make your child study.

Make sure he is getting plenty of practice on SAT and ACT pre-exams and study courses. The more prepared he is, and the more he understands how these tests work, the better he’ll do and the more college choices he will have.

If scholarships are going to be important, start the research on applications early on. Focus on the one’s that have the most potential for your child.

For eighteen years, all you wanted was a little time for yourself. You told your friends that you couldn’t wait for summer break to be over. Your weekends were spent at soccer tournaments. Your car was always full of rowdy kids. Then they graduate, make you proud and move off to college. Problems with loneliness after the kids go to college can be unexpected, but they are real.

If you and your spouse, or you as a single parent, have totally lived for your children, you have probably forgotten how to live for yourselves. Sometimes kids are stunned to find out Mom and Dad are getting a divorce during their sophomore year at college. All they know is that they had the greatest parents in the world. Mom made the best cookies for the team. Dad was everyone’s favorite Little League coach. How could this be happening?

The house seems very empty once the activity of kids is no longer there. All the free time is now really free time. Problems may include depression, isolation, uncertainty and feelings of worthlessness. It can’t all be stopped, but getting prepared for the send off to college can help.

It might be a good idea to plan a big trip for yourself and your spouse or a friend. Take up a new hobby. Moms always feel ugly because they don’t have time to spend on themselves. Do it now! Get a personal trainer. Problems with loneliness will be displaced by a challenge. Join a club, or take up a hobby. If kids are all you know, there’s still a need for Little League coaches, and not all dads will want to do it, or have the experience.

Start having date night. For couples, pick a night for romance and fun. For singles, call the other empty nesters and go for drinks or a movie once a week. It’s time to take care of yourself.

No matter how exciting looking forward to college or an extended trip can be for children and parents, and no matter how independent a child may be there will be times when homesickness will hit. For some children, this hits hard and is often a catalyst in the decision not to pursue a college education at an out-of-state school or continue an extended trip.

Parents can help diminish the feelings of homesickness and the isolation that often comes with these feelings by ensuring that a steady stream of postcards, letters, and other things are being delivered to the absent child. Everything, no matter how large or small, will be appreciated and cherished by the recipient, and looking forward to the next arrival will help take the child’s mind off the homesickness. If you really want to make it personal and useful, college care package is an excellent, thoughtful option.

Postcards are especially suited for constant communication. They are small and cheaper to mail than letters. Postcards are so portable that parents can keep them with them at all times. The message can be as simple as “Thinking of you” or can even provide a teaser — something else for the child to look forward to. The parent can give a short summary of an event that occurred, and then say something like “you’ll have to wait for my letter to find out the rest of the story.”

The letter giving the rest of the details can be enclosed in the college care package that the parents did not mention in the postcard. The excitement of receiving a package stocked with goodies and treats along with the letter that will finish giving all the details can be a double pleasure for an absent child.

You can also send them other gifts such as flowers or stuffed animals accompanied by lounge or sleepwear to show your love. Sending these at different times other than holidays or special occasions can give them a deeper meaning.

One of the most noticeable things you’ll experience once you’re home is an empty nest is how big your house is. For some this may be a relief. If you’ve managed to cram too many people into too small a space for twenty plus years, then that “bigness” will feel awesome. If you’ve been fortunate enough to have a house big enough to house everyone comfortably, that “bigness” may feel like a quiet cavern. So if the nest is empty, try a smaller one.

Many times, empty nesters will take their new found freedom and radically change their lives to suit themselves instead of their children. A big mortgage and big property taxes aren’t necessary anymore. Neither is that big lawn that requires hours of maintenance. Downsize.

Today’s real estate market is positioned to support the buyer. A smaller and more manageable home might be the way to go. Condos are popping up in every city. Would that be a good move for you? A single parent might prefer the condo community to a house. Not only would the place be low maintenance and better suited for a single resident, but you’d have so many new neighbors to get to know.

Keeping that big house just in case the kids come home isn’t practical for you. With the money and taxes you save on your new smaller space, kids can stay in a nearby hotel. Sure. You want to spend time with them, but they’ll be just minutes away, and that’s better than hundreds of miles away at college. Remember, the kids aren’t there to help you maintain a big house anymore. There’s more to it than space issues. There’s extra work for you.

The most important thing to consider is that a smaller place won’t feel so isolated and lonely. You can feel cozy and intimate again.

One of the benefits of having an empty nest is you will get a chance to make over your home in a way that suits you instead the functions of a house full of kids. One of the most sensitive topics in your home makeover will be when to re-arrange your college student’s bedroom.

The kid is gone, and all those teenage things are probably not something he wants to take to college, so is it O.K. to box them up and put them in the attic? At some point it will be, but when? If you transform your college student’s room too soon, he may feel abandoned or insecure in his relationship with you. He may feel like that room is still his territory. Most college kids have not matured to the point where they recognize that it was really your real estate all along.

If you never change the room, it may seem a little bizarre to your child when he returns after four years in college. On the other hand it may seem comfortable. At some point you and your children need to let go. They need to fly, and you need to let them. All those childhood mementos are important, but they don’t have to stick around in the bedroom.

The best tactic is to invite the child to help you transform his old room. That way he doesn’t feel like you’re kicking him out of your life, and he gets to retain a little say in that space he grew up in. Let him help you pick paint colors and new flooring and lighting. Make sure you both pick things you can both live with. If the room stays a bedroom, it will be the guest room, more than likely. You can both design that space to be inviting for all guests, not just your guest college student.

All the fear of being alone and depressed after the kids move out and go to school can suddenly sound like a pretty good prospect if those kids end up moving back home when they should be out on their own. In a case like this, the empty nest syndrome just became the boomerang syndrome.

This phenomenon is prevalent with today’s generation of young adults. After a brief period of living on their own, they ultimately move back home with Mom and Dad. That’s about the time parents are over the grief of the children leaving home. They’re just settling into a nice, quiet lifestyle that suits them and no one else. Then, here we go again.

The reason for the boomerang generation’s move back into the nest is typically financial. It is also caused by divorce and addiction issues. That means the parents are likely having to support an adult child. What income the child does have is usually theirs to spend on themselves.

The whole situation can be a strain. Kids are suddenly back under the rule of the house after having their freedom. Parents are suddenly deprived of their privacy again. The conflict can get to be pretty intense if some rules aren’t established before the child moves back in.

An adult child should pay rent to his parents.
An adult child should take his equal part of the housekeeping duties.
An adult child should wash his own clothes.
An adult child should buy groceries.

Most importantly, the parents need to make sure the child understands it’s a different home now. Just because the child is contributing doesn’t give them the right to smoke or drink or have rowdy friends in the house. Those demands should be a part of the rental agreement. Also, if the child is without a job, they should be actively searching for one every day. Parents who totally support adult children do them a terrible disservice.

Around the eleventh grade, kids start to ponder what they should study in college. It’s time to start thinking about a career. As a parent, you can help your child pick a career path that he will enjoy. After all, you know him better than anyone. The key is picking something the child will enjoy, not picking something you want him to do.

By supporting your child in his own dreams and aspirations, you may stave off some misguided behavior once he gets to college. A child who has no investment or control in his own life will likely rebel as soon as he gets a chance. Everyone wants their kid to be a doctor or lawyer or engineer or teacher. These are honorable professions that will really make you proud. However, your kid’s strength may be in music. It’s the most dreaded career choice a child can make.

Sure, some aspirations are risky, but let those things play out early in the child’s life before he’s weighed down with responsibilities. It’s O.K. to give a child a year to explore. If it’s something as uncertain as music, it won’t take the kid long to figure out he needs something more stable to make a living. That’s a good time to encourage making a living with music by teaching or getting a film scoring degree.

If your child shows no interest in college, that’s O.K., too. Does the child have an interest that would blend into a particular trade really well? Is he good at fixing things? Could he be a great carpenter or car mechanic? These are needed and good paying jobs. Whatever your child chooses, try to be encouraging and gently guide them if they’re too far off the plan.

It’s hard enough to let your kid grow up, but it won’t keep your ties to the child strong if you try to control him. It’s time to go from parent to mentor.

That perfect angel just went off to the university. They had perfect grades and perfect behavior for thirteen years. Now they’re calling to tell you they’re on scholastic probation. Seems your kid went wild in college. What happened?

This a failure to get your kids ready for college. Going off to school is about more than making the grade, learning to study, and picking a future. Kids are on their own for the first time. However, they’re still kids. Without Mom telling them they are forbidden to do something, there’s a good chance they’ll do it. Even when they know you won’t approve, they’re going to explore their new found freedom.

Some kids are products of extremely strict families, and they may say they always felt untrusted and restricted from exploring life. Guess what. They’re gonna do it now. Start increasing your child’s responsibilities and freedoms before they go wild in college. Let them feel some of the consequences while you’re still around to redirect them and explain negative outcomes.

Don’t be afraid to do a little self assessment. Were you unreasonable and too strict? Did you never let your child win an argument? Was “no” the only word you knew? Were you overly critical? Many of us know that parent who goes insane when his kid makes a 90 on a test. Seriously! The kid made an A, but he still wasn’t good enough. The wild college life is in that kid’s future.

Balance in parenting and preparation for college is hard, but if you can find it, you won’t stop the party, but maybe you’ll help your kid understand when to reign it in. Although college is a great place to explore different kinds of people, some new friends may be a bad influence. Gently guide your child if the new friends spell disaster. They’ll probably ignore you until the first bad thing happens. Then your message will sink in.

Teen drug addiction is a growing problem. Although it’s much easier to turn a blind eye to the problem than face it head on, this doesn’t solve the problem. Instead of watching your child torment themselves with drugs or alcohol, take these steps to help.

Is My Teen Addicted?

While many parents may think it’s somewhat normal to experiment, this can often turn into addiction. Here are some signs to look for:

Social withdrawal or a completely new set of friends

Sudden need for extreme privacy

Disappearing at odd hours

Money or possessions start to disappear

Your prescription medications are low

Odd pills are found laying around

Sudden mood changes – either up or down

Missing school more often

Unexplained empty cough syrup or pill packages

Soda cans that are bent strangely or have burn marks

Addiction can be a Symptom of a Bigger Problem

While addiction can be all about the drugs, it can also be a sign of a deeper problem. In many cases, your teen may be extremely depressed or anxious. Don’t ignore any psychological problems just because drugs are involved! Ask your teen WHY they do drugs in addition to what they are taking and how often.

Help is There for You and Your Teen

Although this may be the most difficult decision you ever make, it will be the right one. Your teenager has a better chance for recovery in a rehab center than in any type of outpatient or do-it-yourself treatment. They may try to talk you out of it, but don’t let them! In a rehab center, they will get the support and the treatment they need for a successful future. To find a great rehab center near you, visit TheCyn.com.

If you feel that your teen may be addicted to drugs, don’t take a wait and see attitude. This problem only gets worse with time!

Divorce rates are at all time highs, and the number one reason that people do not stay together is because of money. Finances might be the most stressful part of a relationship, and in these difficult financial times worrying about the bottom line has become more important than ever. People are concerned over money because it trumps nearly every other concern. Without the basic need of providing for food or shelter in society everything else seems to be insignificant by comparison.

Figuring out financial hardships can mean the difference between success and failure in a marriage. Before getting married, couples need to establish their financial boundaries. Even the most successful couples can collapses over a financial dispute or bankruptcy. Many famous couples have divorced despite enjoying some of the best possible financial situations in the entire world. People enjoy superior financial status due to a combination of luck and hard work. Even the most successful people need a bit of luck to enjoy the good life. And it takes a combination of knowledge and success to enjoy the best possible financial situation.

Even though finances are often controlled by forces outside of an individual’s power, the most successful people will put their financial odds as much in their favor as possible. This includes making difficult decisions when they are called for. By taking out loans through organizations such as GreatPlainsLending or refinancing an asset, people can make intelligent financial decisions. It is not enough to hope for the best possible ending. In the modern world, people need to be diligent and plan for a better future. Rather than allow a negative situation to fester, people should look into financial help for the best possible solution to a negative situation. Financial institutions get people to face their financial troubles and arrive at the best possible situation.

When parents are raising their children they often look forward to the peace and quiet they will get when their children leave home. However when this situation actually happens some parents find themselves feeling depressed and lonely without the companionship of their children. This feeling is often referred to as “Empty Nest Syndrome”.

Therapists believe that this change in living conditions can be more damaging to a parent than issues such as trouble with the in-laws and divorce.

Many parents feel lonely when their children leave home. Though this happens with both genders it is more commonplace in women. This a natural feeling as most parents have spent at least eighteen years with their children in their home. When all the children have left home many parents feel like their job is over and done with.

The name given to this feeling of depression and grief was put in place by psychologists in order to address an issue that many parents all over the world are dealing with. There are a few ways to deal with empty nest syndrome.

Firstly it is important that parents acknowledge the way that they are feeling. The more that parents understand why they are experiencing these emotions the better equipped they will be to deal with bad days when they come.

One of the most obvious solutions is that parents stay in contact with their children. This will help parents to stop missing them too much.

Lastly parents should make an effort to find activities and events they enjoy. By keeping their lives full they will have less time to feel depressed.

Children leaving home is not easy for most parents. However the sad feelings associated with it will subside over time. Parents need to be patient and start building a life for themselves that does not require daily contact with their children.

Before students can apply to a desired college, they must prepare some subjects according the preferences of the college they wish to apply. There are no short-cuts to success and that applies perfectly to this too. A student must start studying with a study plan and must have access to the wanted supplies and study materials so that they can make a high school preparation. A study plan is a must before you start your high school preparation. Being sure about when and how many hours you are going to study helps you divide time between the subjects. To set the mood, start studying the subject you enjoy studying first and run through other subjects as you gain pace. Start as early as possible in your first academic year. This will allow you the extra time to explore the options and also to collect the study materials. If buying all the books is an economic burden to you, buy the same books but the used up editions in the book sales. Be attentive in class lectures from the very first day of your school. Always be sure of course outlines, lessons and assignments deadlines so that you can plan your academic year accordingly. This information is given to you by your counseling office or on the very first day of your high school by your teacher. You should keep a diary to keep in track the schedule of the assessments and assignments. Never skip a day in school because that can hurt your credentials apart from making you lag behind in the coursework. Make your notebook attractive with proper and clear headings. This will increase your interests in study. Another thing that is worth mentioning but students generally don’t keep track of is their health. You mustn’t take contaminated food and must have food with proper nutrition. Exercises and sports should be part of daily routine. This keeps you fit mentally and physically so that you can take your study positively and smoothly.

It is common to see children leave their homes to build their life on their own in the world today. After a certain age they leave their parents and try to make their mark in the world. At this point, the parents feel a sense of loneliness which is termed as empty nest syndrome. It is called so by comparing it with the nesting habits of a bird.
The empty nest syndrome is generally experienced more by women than men as it is seen that they are much closer to their children. The sudden feeling that they no longer as much importance as they did when the children stayed with them leads to these feelings. Though there may be a strong bond even through a distance, there won’t be any hands-on role for the parents in the child’s life.

The causes of this syndrome are many. It can be due to the child going for higher studies in a far off place so that they can no longer stay with their parents. Or it can be that they got a great job in some other country making them leave their native place. Another common reason is the child getting married, which makes them shift the house.

The syndrome is aggravated owing to fact that extended families don’t exist anymore. In the old days when the children went away from home there were others to make you feel comfortable and needed, whereas with the concept of nuclear family, parents are easily left behind with no one to interact with them.

The empty nest syndrome is specially seen in countries where you find a clash between traditional values and westernization. It is seen that the people of nations in such a situation have been prone to the syndrome in past few years.

The empty syndrome is a general feeling which the parents experience when their child or children leave home and shift to some other place. The parents feel lonely or left out even though the child would be still close and loving. At a distance the parents would have a much less or negligible hands-on experiences with the child making them feel less important.

You can handle yourself in case this syndrome occurs. You will have to prepare some time ahead. The first thing to do is to make use of the space left behind by your child when they are with you. Don’t make them feel that you are pushing them out but do it before they leave in case you put it off afterwards. You can volunteer to do something or take a class on some subject you’ve been wanting to for a long time.

With the children gone off to make their own lives, you can now take a second honeymoon with your partner and enjoy some time off. You may do some errands for your child like getting grocery for them. Try not to overdo it though which would make them feel threatened in their space and don’t attach any strings either which would make them uncomfortable.

Be proud of yourself that you have done your parental duties with as much perfection as you are capable of. Being a parent is not easy and to think you have a child in the path of success is not a minor thing. If you feel very sad or distressed when your child leaves home then see a doctor to get some medication and take your mind off.
You may even see a family friend or maybe a relative in the same situation to discuss your problems and get some advices on what you should do with it.

A career is a lifelong commitment to a work which you enjoy, or it can be defined as a distinct part of your life. There are careers which you can enjoy it so much that the monetary benefit would seem to be a trivial thing, while there are others which you are skilled at and get you plenty of money. As it is a lifelong commitment, good career guidance is required for the children before they make up their minds on it.
A person who finds a career which suits their needs and their taste is a very lucky person indeed. You may find many people who are restless and unhappy with the path they have chosen. Hence, it has become necessary to give your child guidance on the career paths they can choose so that they can lead a satisfactory and successful life.
When young, everybody dreams of being a scientist or an actor, or maybe a doctor or a successful businessman. What they don’t realize is that these might not exactly be satisfactory to them once they choose the path, so guidance is needed so that the children can focus on the career which would be suitable for them.

Some of the things you should ask your child and make them think on are what they enjoy doing the most, or if they know the various jobs in the society. They should be aware of what their parents do in their careers and how different jobs make up a society. All these would give the child an insight to what a career is and its importance and significance on the society.

Apart from these, you should also explain the various aspects of different jobs so that child knows what he would be getting into. With a set mind, the child can pursue a career of his choice.

To choose a career is not an easy task. It requires a lot of planning and careful preparation. Of course, there are people who just blindly took in the first career that came along the way but you may find that there is limited guarantee that they would be happy in it. To be in a career which is successful, you will have to work for it from childhood which is why career guidance is given so much importance these days.

There is a difference between being skilled at what you do and being happy in the same. It is not necessary that you be happy in a job for which you have excellent skills. This is because though you may skills perfect for the job, it is not something you are enjoying. There are people who are skilled and enjoy the work they do but you find that there are others too who don’t have the same experience.

A child should be encouraged from the very early stage to develop his skills and build a path towards a career which requires skills he has. This would help to avoid disappointment or unsuccessful careers later in life. If you have your mind set on a career from a very young age, you can easily find success in it because of the years of perfecting your skills for it.

There are people who love to do something creative but their job is something entirely different. Think of a lawyer who loves to play a musical instrument but won’t have to use his talents in his career. So the next best thing he can do is to show his talent at get-togethers or maybe even give part-time classes to other enthusiasts. So you can see that you may do anything you enjoy and make a successful career.

Having a child can be a great experience but this is followed by a not-so-great experience of bringing them up. Every kid is an individual and would require special attention and care in areas different from his parents or siblings. Each child has his own good and bad in him which the parents have to identify and learn to teach him to be better.

One of the problems dealt by the parents while dealing with kids is disobedience. This is a factor seen in many kids and reasons can be many. It may be due to the fact that you are giving too much freedom to the child leading him to think he can break every rule in the house, or it can be due to his conflicts with others like his peers or siblings.

Another factor is a kid’s rebellion. You feel annoyed when your child rebels and won’t listen to what you are telling him to do. This too can have many reasons similar to disobedience. It may have started with something as minor as breaking a small family rule, which could plant the idea in their minds that they can get away with anything.
Every conflict between a child and a parent occurs because of the child finding his or her independence and coming in terms with it. Over the years the children realize that the parents have less control over them than it seems to be and that they can get away with something. A rebellion can start during a small age but you can be fairly sure that it would pass once they reach a matured age.

One of the biggest help you can do to a disobedient or rebellious child is to be positive and loving when they try to open up so that they feel loved. If it gets worse seek professional help else try to help the child yourself.

Parents play an important role in the growth and development of their child. Right from the day the baby is born till the time they grow up, the parents remain extremely significant in their lives. In majority of the cases, the dreams and aspirations of a child are taken care by the parents. They nurture the thoughts of the child in their formative years. However as the child starts growing up, the role of the parents seems to apparently decrease. In such circumstances, the parents find it hard to cope with the situation.

As children starts going to schools, colleges or universities, the time they spend with their parents decreases substantially. They get new friends and start getting involved in newer affairs. As they get busy in their new world full of activities, they tend to spend less time with their parents. They start enjoying their new life to the utmost. In such situations, parents often start feeling lonely. As they do not possess the same amount of bonding and right over their children, often loneliness and depression starts creeping in their life. Though this problem arises with both the mother and the father, it is the mother who faces it more severely.

A child depends a lot on their parents. However it is also true that the parents also depend a lot on their children. They spend most of their times looking after the well-being of their children. Every small thing pertaining to the development of a child is looked after by their parents. Hence when the time comes where a child has to leave home for school, college or anywhere else, a vacuum is filled in the life of the parents. In extreme situations, the parents start doubting their role in their child’s life. It is important for such parents to know that they still have a long way to go.

Disobedience and indiscipline form part of the formative years of a child. As a child starts growing up, he tends to grow apart from his parents. A new life, new set of friends and activities beckon him. With the increase in the number of friends and activities, children at times lose focus from their lives and start enjoying their new found freedom to a massive extent. They forget about family bonding and the limits set up by the family. In such circumstances, one can witness frictions happening between the child and the parents.

Each and every child suffers from the disobedience problem. It is the extent which varies from child to child. In some cases it is quite rare and in some cases it can be visibly more. The severity and the frequency of those problems depend from one person to another. The problems of indiscipline and disobedience can be seen more in teenagers. Teenage is such a phase of life in which the chances of a child becoming a rebel is enormous. Hence, during such years of their life, it is extremely important to take a note of the happenings of their life and the changes that are taking place.

In most of the cases, a teenager gets irritated when a parent starts interfering in their life. During such times, in order to disregard their parents, the children become disobedient. However, for such children, the role of the parents increases. It is very important for the parents to make the children understand the rights and wrongs of their life. The parents should become their friend and deal with them calmly.
A fine set of dos and dont’s should be chalked out for the children. It is the duty of the parents to make the children aware about them and stick to them. In case of anything happening otherwise, proper steps should be taken.

The behavior of a child faces immense changes during his growing up years. In the initial years, when under the safe custody of the parents, a child listens to whatever the parents say. As they start growing up and spending more times with their friends rather than parents, a significant change in their behavior can be seen. The change in behavior is not bad as it is an integral part of a child’s development for his future. In some circumstances, however, a child tends to become unruly and rebellious. In such situations, it becomes really important for the parents to help the children.

Some simple steps can be taken by the parents in order to safeguard their children from becoming rebellious. The first and foremost thing is to become a good friend of the child. Loving, caring and sharing are the most important things to be nurtured while dealing with a child. When a child is growing up, it is very important for the parents to let them know that they are loved and cared. It may require you to time and again utter the fact that you love him, but the impact it has on the child is immense. When the child is sure that there are people who love him and takes care of all his needs, it boosts his morale.

Guide your child and teach him about the various challenges he may face in his life. Teaching and guiding your child during his growing up years play a significant role in the mental strength of the child. He should not only be told about the various challenges and problems he may face in his life, he should also be given assistance in dealing with them. Full co-operation from parents during crisis situations also help the child in getting closer to his parents.

Empty nest syndrome is a psychological problem which is faced by parents, mainly mothers when their child leaves home for further studies or any other reasons. The parents play a crucial role in the development of a child. Everything about the child is taken care of by the parents. There are parents for whom children means everything for their life. The involvement with the children becomes a major part of their life. With that important part of their life leaving home they are left alone and emptiness starts sneaking into their lives.

A large number of teenagers leave their homes to pursue further studies. When they leave their homes, the parents start missing them. It is something like a part of their life has gone missing. The time dedicated for the children is left vacant. A feeling of sadness and grief crops up during such situations. It is quite natural to feel sad when your child suddenly leaves home after spending so much time together. However, for some women this feeling of grief remains for a long time. The lingering of this feeling can be referred as empty nest syndrome. It is mainly mothers who suffer from the syndrome, especially the single mothers. For them, their entire life was committed for the well-being of the child. Hence when he leaves home, a sense of worthlessness prevails in their mind. The same mental state also happens when a child gets married as matrimony is seen as signifying the decreasing importance of parents.
It is hard for parents to get accustomed to such situations. The time taken to cope with such a situation depends from parents to parents. However if the condition persists for a long time, it is advisable to seek professional help. Going through a long period of depression and loneliness is extremely bad for the mental health of a person and needs treatment.

When a teenager leaves home for schools, colleges or universities, a large section of parents start suffering from what is known as the empty nest syndrome. Parents, especially mothers during such times suffer from loneliness and depression. Parents spend most of their times doing things keeping in mind the welfare of their children. Hence when a child leaves home, the purpose of their living suffers a setback. The absence of their children, the main focus of their life, creates a vacuum in their life.

It becomes really hard for some parents to deal with such a situation. The intensity of suffering from this depression depends from person to person. There are parents who are successful and busy, but yet they suffer from this syndrome. They miss their children terribly and spend a lot of time in their children’s rooms in order to feel their presence. It is natural to feel lonely when a child leaves home for the first time. Depression and emptiness are common in such circumstances. However if the feeling continues for a long time and everything looks miserable, it is better to take professional help. Counseling can help you in coping with the situation and getting the situation under control. Making yourself useful for the society as a whole will also help a lot in reducing the feeling. Involving yourself with several welfare activities will take away lot of your time and you will be left with little time to think and feel depressed.

Parent can also help themselves by keeping a pet. A living pet can bring immense cheer and happiness into your life. When you start questioning about your usefulness, it is the presence of an innocent pet which can change your life drastically, for the better. The unconditional love which they offer will usher in a new zeal of life in you.

At some point in life, we all think back in time, how our parents must have took pains and did sacrifices to bring us up. This realization occurs when we take our first step into parenting. The most important responsibility of a couple is to bring up our children as better individuals and inculcate in them social and ethical responsibilities, moral values and culture.

Earlier, all mothers were fully committed to look after home and children. But now, due to increased monetary requirement, both parents started working. Here we often see situations where parents have no other choice than sending their children to boarding schools or college hostels, in search of quality education, to make their off springs competent in this challenging world.

Even though this decision is taken for a good cause, once the children leave home for studies, parents slowly start feeling an unexplainable emptiness. That’s when they realize how much they are attached to their children and how they enjoyed watching them grow up, starting from the time of birth, through each stage of their efforts to cope up with the new world.

With the influence of modern day gadgets like mobile phones, computers and internet, communication has been made easy and convenient. Still, parents find it a bit difficult to overcome the feeling of loneliness, especially the mothers. Sometimes, this makes them act over protective and sometimes defensive too.

Modern day parents have to face these problems, mainly because of the nuclear family concept, where elders are left to stay alone, when children move out for education. When children enjoy and adapt to their social life with a little bit of initial home sickness, parents are the one who feels abandoned and lost. In fact, thinking about all the hardships in bringing up kids, this one will be the most difficult and unfair part. But, there is no other choice than to abide by the law of nature.

Regarding eighty years as the average life span of a human being in the present world, middle age refers to the mid forties or fifties, when people usually think about initiating the preliminary plans of settling down, with children progressing with their lower or higher level of education. There is a misconception that the most difficult part of parenting ends here and rest of it is just simple guidance and maybe some occasional advices along the way. But, the real test of life starts here because every parent thinks that once the children grow up to be capable to handle their own life, they can be free of tension and a big commitment has been taken care of.

Whereas actually what happens is that once the children leave home for higher studies or by marriage, parents start going through what is called the Empty Nest Syndrome. They feel a weird emptiness, loneliness in their life as if they have been abandoned. This is the time when they realize how attached they are to their children and how deeply they were involved in the life of one another.

Even though this is felt more deeply by mothers, it depends on the individual, how they cope up with it and how long they take to recover from the situation. Some people, mainly single parents start feeling insecure and find refuge in shifting to live with children, dedicating the rest of their life, looking after them and yearning for love and care. Whereas there are others who rise up over the situation, very strong and self centered, redefining a new beginning, discovering their deep down passions and hobbies like pets, gardening, stitching, social service or even spirituality.

They search out and find some activities to keep them engaged all day. Recovering and coping up with such a situation surely will take time, but eventually parents do catch up with the flow of life.

Man, with his immense inventions and discoveries, have yet not been able to define or match the power of nature, which has an unexplainable capacity and power to look after all the needs of life. In the same way, it’s a natural instinct of every mother and father to take good care of their child and understand their needs from time to time. Nature itself has built an invisible physical, emotional and spiritual bonding between parents and children. The depth of this divine bonding will increase as the child grows up under his/her parents’love, care and protection.

This is the reason why every individual is first and foremost deeply influenced by their parents or care taker, whom they are brought up with. As time passes, the child grows up into an independent individual and at some point of time, leaves their parents and home, to another place, for the purpose of education, or to start a new life with a life partner after marriage.

This is the stage of parenting when parents struggle most, to accept and cope up with what is called Empty Nest Syndrome, when they feel a strange emptiness and loneliness in life, as if they are abandoned. Recovering from this emotional stress will take some time and how they come out of this situation, depends on the individuals.

The main reason why parents have to go through this condition is due to their unavoidable emotional attachment to their children. The mind of a parent, especially a mother will never accept the fact that their children are now grown up. Another cause is the natural habit of human, as a social being to always depend on others, searching for emotional security in relations, especially in the case of middle aged parent and their children.

There is no short cut in life. Every parent will have to go through this stage at some point of time.

Education, in ancient world mainly served the purpose of inculcating moral values and culture to the young ones. Spiritual teachings and knowledge sessions were held to spread positive ideas and to learn from one another. With the development of human as the superior species, importance of education also grew with respect to new technology and findings.

Education and career has boomed into a huge business recently. Earlier, if students used to aim for a particular degree, to get into some job, now they focus on job oriented education from lower classes itself. To be successful in the present competitive world, parents and students, both, should first decide on the ultimate career goal or ambition, and start preparations for the same from high school.

This results in a focused education pattern from childhood, preparing each student to overcome the tedious and tough screening tests and ultimately increasing the chances of success in accomplishing the desired goals in their career. Such targeted education improves the quality of candidates reaching an organization as a part of their career. But, on the other side, this pattern has also proved to put increased pressure and work load on students from their earlier stages of education, resulting in an unhealthy competition between students and even parents, to some extent. There are ways to avoid these by providing specially designed syllabus and through proper career guidance for children, in addition to parent counseling.

Parents have an important role to play, in their children’s education. They should encourage the student in studies, and help them to discover their hidden strengths in particular subjects. This makes it easier for a child to mentally prepare for high school preparations, targeting a particular field of expertise.

No matter what hurdles come in the way, students should start thinking about their career from early stages of education.

Deciding about what career to opt for and what is the best way to achieve that career goal is often intriguing even for the college students, imagine the perplexed state of the kids regarding the career options and career paths. There are some sets of things which parents and teachers need to take note and care of so that their kids and students get the best opportunity and resource to explore them before they choose a career path.

What parents and teachers need to look at first is the kinds of interests and skills the kid has. Parents and teachers need to watch the patterns of activities their child is interested in. Is he artistic, more interested in science, whether they have something in their life they can’t live without and the extra-curricular they are involved in their school? If their kids do seem to have any particular or a set of specific interests, guardians need to provide further support and resources to the kids so that they can polish their skills and interests.

Allow him/her to be a member of the specific clubs, provide them with additional training programs in the latter stage of their career planning. If kid doesn’t seem to have any interests, don’t worry, it is more due to the lack of options than lack of talent in the kid. It seems that they need to explore themselves.

Provided with above understanding and resources, most of the kids seem to have a glimpse of what or who they want to be in the future. Now the job of guardians becomes even more important. Some children don’t show inclination to the studies after their teens. Guardians need to show that life still has more to explore than study. They need to provide kid with options like business and apprenticeships or jobs that don’t require college degree.

Kids of new generation are blessed with a greater Intelligence Quotient (IQ), expressing easier and greater level of understanding, grasping multiple languages, starting from an unexpected earlier stage of growth. Parents and even teachers sometime find it difficult to answer the complicated questions raised by the kids. This easily explains the advanced level of thinking of the new generation kids, demanding greater attention to their method of education and training.

Building a successful career is the most important and prominent target in a person’s life. The ideas of a perfect job and the different ways of achieving it have to be educated from school itself. This led to the thought of career guidance to kids. It helps the children to discover and develop the various skills in them and guides them to choose a particular field of expertise, as they pass on to high school. Development of a child’s personality is also an inevitable part of career guidance. Parents and teachers play a major role in encouraging a child in his/her studies, and to reduce their mental tension, enabling them to handle the work load more effectively, putting maximum efficiency in all works they do.

Now, different agencies have started and developed their own strategy and solutions for providing career guidance for kids. They use initial screening tests and categorized exams to help students find their subject of interest. And their service also includes guidelines to parents, to find out their child’s strong subjects and encourages focusing on it, for further higher studies. General knowledge and wide exposure to technical gadgets and emerging technologies, the new generation kids have started ruling the present business world. Excellent examples of this are the emergence of young billionaires and technocrats with super fast brain and increased IQ and EQ. These tips will surely help in the long run.

Empty nest syndrome is a feeling of obvious feeling of loneliness amongst parents or guardians when their children leave home for college or school, around whom their whole life revolved for so many years at home. It is more conspicuous in non-working mothers and guardians, who used to spend most of their time taking care of children from their nutrition, clothing and nurturing. When child leaves the home for schooling or college, the guardians feel an empty gap in their life and in the worst case some think that their purpose of life has ceased because most of their life used to revolve around that kid.

The symptoms of Empty nest syndrome may range from a mild to a very harmful one. General symptoms are a feeling of loneliness, emptiness or a gap in life. Some start having a feeling of purposelessness, they start feeling unwanted or no longer needed in a physical or psychological way. Recent researches have shown that the syndrome is more prevalent in the cultures where the grand parents look after their grandchildren in an extended family. But when the child leaves, they feel very lonely and useless of themselves.

Researches have also shown that it is more common in the regions of Asia and middle-east than in the western societies because these places have more extended family culture than nuclear family culture. Modernization of even these places has made caring for elder family members very impracticable for the family members resulting in unavailability of anyone to be with those elderly members. This is more common in grandparents, or housewives who don’t work outside.

The cure to this syndrome is to find ways to divert the mind of the one affected with it. The easiest way to do so is to get a pet. They get to take care of pet like they did of their child and also they feel a sense of purpose.

Most parents don’t have an idea about how or why their children become disobedient and often disrespectful to their parents in their childhood and teenage. The reasons can be defined by many categories and can be listed as long as we like to. The root of these kinds of problems is that the children are growing up and parents must take into account that they are in a stage of mental and psychological developments which they are experiencing for the first time.

The immediate reasons though seem like the arrogance or dearth of discipline or even intake of drugs on the part of children. Some children continue showing disobedience and arrogance after passing their stage of teenage mainly because they start liking doing so. Here parents must find a balance between the hard way and the smooth way in dealing with the children. Some children had lost their way during their teenage but have much room for improvement while some purely choose the path of disobedience and arrogance intentionally. So a difference must be made in dealing between these two kinds of kids. Some of the kids get rebellious to their parents because parents are more a part of problem than the kid itself.

They are not supportive enough mentally and emotionally to their child and as a result child searches for alternative supports showing to rebellion to the parents. Many kids develop such rebellious attitude because of discussions between them and parents on career path, values or goals in life etc. Parents want their child to do what they want whereas the child is looking for his separate identity.

This causes antagonism and eventually a great distrust between the guardian and child resulting in arrogance, disobedience and disrespect. This is how you can deal with the children’s disobedience.
